The Tub Chair
A tub chair is a modern piece of furniture that is designed to be both stylish and comfortable for the sitter. The shape of this easy chair resembles that of a bath tub with a low back and high arms. In some versions the back and arms are at the same height, or may gently curve from one height to the next. The seat is slightly reclined so that the sitter can take pressure off of their back and be more comfortable.
Tub chairs have not always been desired because of style. In the past they were actually recommended by doctors for people who were having back pain. The design of the seat was perfect for relieving pressure on the spine and helping people reduce the pain they felt. It was seen as being just the right angle to maximize comfort for the human body. Eventually the comfort and style became popular with the general public as well.
Current designs also include a swivel feature. In these swivel chairs there is a plate attached to the bottom of the chair that allows movement for the person sitting. These can especially be popular in professional settings when it might often be used for meetings where individuals need to move to interact with and pay attention to various others in the room.
Most tub chairs are covered with leather material. If you choose a chair that is covered with a different material you may be able to get one for less money since the leather of course costs more. Depending on the type of chair you get prices range from about $200 through about $700. The price will be based on not only the material the chair is made from but also its style and features. Swivel tub chairs, for example, are usually a little more expensive than stationary chairs.
