Besides the species mentioned above, the mol maple, birch, pine and yellow are the next best to use. It is easy to duplicate mol maple and birch each produced decent amount of heat, but they both burn and sink. It also produces a low amount of heavy smoke and sparks. The yellow pine is also quite a decent wood to use. The only significant problem with pine is that it tends to smoke a lot, and it may not be ideal for burning inside your house. The elm, Sweetgum, the Basswood, poplar and white pine species are all decent. If you can not get the wood one mentioned above, they work just fine. None of them produced an impressive amount of heat, but in some cases heat is no better. These species also produce more smoke and sparks as mentioned above. Elm and Sweetgum tend not burn very well, and it is often difficult to duplicate. The wood should be used when you have no other choice available to you. As is the case with any heating system, your wood-burning stove should be installed by a professional. It must be checked and maintained annually, with your fireplace. Remember to always make safety a priority and keep your end tools and fire extinguisher near emergency.
